Copley Creekside Farmers Market

The Copley Creekside Farmers Market began in 2012 as a way to bring the community together each week in the heart of the township while honoring the area’s rural heritage. Copley is a historically rural farming community and local business leaders felt it was time to embrace that fact.

Now entering its seventh season in 2018, the market continues to give friends and neighbors the opportunity to shop together in the fresh air for local produce and homemade goods. It’s an open and flexible market, allowing vendors to join at any time and for as many weeks as fits their schedule. This means Copley is able to offer a market with an irresistible mix of the new and unexpected next to the classic and weekly favorites.

City Council is considering changes in an ordinance that would require fees for beekepers in the City of Akron.  Additionally, the ordinace states that chickens are not permitted.  We think this is a perfect opportunity to bring stakeholders to the table and discuss sensible modifications around animals and land use for food production.  If you are able to attend this evening's City Council meeting in support of  holding of the vote in order to discuss allowances for chickens, bees, and urban agriculture, please plan to attend and show your support.  Here is a link to the proposed changes to the ordinance.

Feeding the 500 (Portage County Event)

Each year, one third of the world's food supply goes to waste. If global food waste, were a country, it would be the third largest greenhouse gas emitter, behind China and the US.

To make a point about food waste, we'll be collecting food that would have been wasted in grocery stores and restaurants to repurpose it into a meal for 500 people!

We're holding a free event on April 15 from 1:00 - 5:00 pm on KSU's Risman Plaza! Students and community members are welcome to join us for free food, food waste games, informational booths and speakers.

Presenters include OSU Extension specialists, Extension Educators, Business owners, and small farm producers/entrepreneurs. Conference participants will have the opportunity to attend four different sessions over the course of the four breakout sessions. The Small Farm conference trade show offers another opportunity to learn and gather information. The trade show vendors/exhibitors feature goods and services used in small farm operations.
